Chapter Five

Luse met Elian at the hatch so they could go together into the Titus. As Elian entered the code to open the access door, Luse reached forward stopping him. Their eyes locked. There was something dangerous lingering within Elian’s gaze. “What are you not telling me?”

“It’s private.”

“We’ve never had secrets between each other before,” Luse said.

Elian sighed heavily. “Xand is aware that we have two humans on our ship.”

“And?”

“Nothing. We will protect them.”

There was worry in Elian’s gaze. There was good reason to be worried where Xand was concerned. “Yes we will.”

They rose through the ranks together, Elian and Xand. Bad blood lingered between them throughout the years. Luse was certain that was due to Xand playing the game with the Royal Family, whereas Elian wouldn’t.

Elian finished entering the code to the hatch and the four panels spun outward like a flower blooming open. When the hatches were open, they stepped aboard the Titus. The Titus mirrored the Titan in size and shape. Luse wasn’t comfortable on the Titus. The men of the Titus were brutal followers who would go blindly into battle. Elian’s men were intelligent and thought for themselves. Elian had worked with the Royal Guard to make sure all his men would be loyal to him first. They were led by two of the crew to Xand’s private chambers.

Home. His chambers smelled like their home world. It was the Kolina plant that bloomed only in the evenings with bright pink petals.

Xand stood by the bay windows that looked out upon deep space. “These men will save our race. They are perfect in every way.”

“How are they?” Luse asked.

Xand frowned. “Sedated again unfortunately. They are frightened. They fear me.”

“They are emotional creatures,” Elian said.

Xand nodded. “Perhaps.”

Drinks were given, and they sat around the table to eat. Frustration ramped through Luse as a formal dinner was served. Luse tried to stay out of the conversation. He didn’t like it when Xand looked too closely at him. Exotic sweet treats from the far region of their home world were served for desert. The sweet confections were placed directly in front of Luse. All he could think about was serving one to Fallon and watching his tongue go to town on it.

Luse had to get out of there before his cock filled with lust. He didn’t care for the political bull that came from having to interact with other ships.

“What of the females?” Xand asked.

“They only carry eggs. Only the males carry the seed to have offspring.”

“I’ve been given orders to get more,” Elian said.

“I will be taking these two back to have them evaluated by the Royal Family,” Xand said.

“They won’t go willingly,” Luse said.

“I will convince them.”

There was a hard edge to Xand’s eyes that frightened Luse greatly. “They have excellent memories.”

“Yes. I wouldn’t harm them. You will lose their trust,” Elian said.

“Trust?”

“It is a human emotion,” Elian said.

“It allows them to bond,” Luse added.

Elian looked sad for a moment. “Has the Royal Family decided on their status?”

“They will be treated like donors and nothing more.
